WRITERS of good standards and ambition want their product to be well done and to be seen as such. They will want it edited and free of errors and inconsistencies that will interfere with its reception by the average publisher, by the reasonable critic and by the general reader. Editing will increase its chance of success.
As a writer, you may choose to self-edit. Nevertheless, even editors may overlook simple errors or omissions in their own work, thus needing a “fresh eye” to overview their manuscript.
Nowadays you can call upon the built-in “find and replace” and the grammar and spell-checker of your word processor. However, some of its suggestions will be contrary with what you wish to express. In addition, the spell-checker will not detect words that are spelt correctly but used in the wrong context, for example, “it’s” and “its”, “role” and “roll”, “cue” and “queue”, and “sister’s” and “sisters’”.
Editorial Service Types
We proofread and edit clients’ work, as well as advising them on self-publishing of their books. We will review your manuscript and suggest the type of editorial service we think appropriate from the following list.
Editorial Service Type 1: PROOFREADING ONLY SERVICE
Where you are confident in your own editing ability, and wish for minimum intervention in your manuscript, we offer a proofreading only service. We check to maintain the strength of your work, correcting any spelling, any formatting and situational or any punctuation and typographical error that you may have overlooked.
Editorial Service Type 2: COPY EDITING SERVICE
We will check the copy of your manuscript for spelling, punctuation, typographical, formatting and situational errors, as well as checking the sense, grammar, phrasing, continuity and arrangement, and correct as necessary.
Editorial Service Type 3: LINE-BY-LINE /SUBSTANTIVE EDITING SERVICE
We will check everything in the manuscript, including arrangement and rephrasing as necessary. However, for non-fiction works, authors should present us with correct information. We may refuse a job requiring major research and substantial corrections, or substantial rewriting. Alternatively, we may charge a substantial fee.
